David Clemens

Associate Professor, Biblical Languages
BA (Cambridge), MCS (Regent College), MA (British Columbia), PhD (Chicago)

David Clemens has had a long involvement with Regent—as a student in the 1970s, as an instructor in Greek and Hebrew in the 1980s and finally as Associate Professor of Biblical Languages starting Fall 2001. His doctoral work at the University of Chicago focused on Northwest Semitic Philology with particular interest in the sacrificial system of the ancient kingdom of Ugarit. (Since their discovery began in 1928, Ugaritic materials have been of interest to Old Testament scholars due to the new light they shed on the religious and cultural practices in Syria-Palestine at the time the Israelites came there from Egypt.) Prior to coming to Regent, David taught courses in Old Testament, Hebrew and ancient Semitics at the University of Chicago, Wilfrid Laurier University and Emmanuel Bible College. David and his wife, Patricia, have five children.
