Since its
founding in the late 1960s, the Regent Carey
library has been growing steadily. It now
consists of approximately 150,000 items
(books, microfiche, microfilms, video tapes,
and audio tapes). The library holds partial
or full runs of 900 periodicals, of which
380 subscriptions are current. The main
strengths of the book collection lie in
biblical studies, congregational and pastoral
studies, and Protestant thought. Our resources
also include many significant volumes from the
Catholic tradition, such as the Patrologia Latina
(220 vols.), Patrologia Graeca (50 vols.),
and many other important works on the history
of theology, philosophy, and spirituality.
Our library resources
are well-used by the students. Circulation
statistics published in the yearly proceedings
of the American Theological Library Association
indicate that the average number of loan
transactions per year at the Regent Carey
Library is comparable with some of the largest theological
schools in North America, which typically
have 1,000 to 2,000 full-time students in
comparison with Regent's 350.
The audio tape collection
at the Regent Carey Library consists of
6,000 tapes, with CD's now also being added. These are mostly lectures by
regular and visiting Regent faculty, and
they are very popular, accounting for approximately
10% of the loan transactions in a given
year.
